On March 11, 2008, University Settlement hosted its Fourth Annual Fine Wine Dinner and Auction at Christie’s New York. The event has become a “hot ticket” for leaders in New York’s finance and banking community, selling out each year with a waiting list.

Through a series of blind tasting conducted by Michael Green, wine and spirits consultant to Gourmet magazine and the evening’s Wine Tasting Master of Ceremonies, our guests tried to outguess their friends (and outsmart the experts). Each of the fine “mystery” wines that accompanied the five-course gourmet dinner prepared by Colin Alevras, Chef/Owner of The Tasting Room, posed a tantalizing challenge.

For the third year in a row Bank of America served as the lead sponsor. Wine sponsors included Acker Merrall&Condit, Champagne Pommery, James&Karen Finkel, Goldman, Sachs & Co., Mark Goldweitz, Lauber Imports, Joseph J. Magliocco, Maison Louis Jadot, Prescott Wines and Vérité. Riedel Crystal generously provided all the glassware for the evening.

This exclusive marquee event was a marketing and philanthropic opportunity for our lead and wine sponsors, as well as our table sponsors: Dynamic Credit Partners, Guggenheim Partners, Kingdon Capital Management, Lusman Capital Management, Marathon Asset Management, Matlin Patterson Global Advisors, Morgan Stanley, Starwood Capital Group, and Tricadia Capital.

University Settlement Board Members James K. Finkel (CEO, Dynamic Credit Partners, LLC; Member, Wine Committee University Club; Commandeur de Bordeaux; and Co-Founder of The Tasting Room Restaurant) and Jeffrey C. Cohen (Managing Director & Head of Institutional Equity Sales, Banc of America Securities) served as event chairs.

All proceeds from the dinner will benefit University Settlement’s diverse programs, which help over 20,000 low-income and at-risk New Yorkers build better lives for themselves and their families each year.
