Staff from University Settlement and The Door received a visit from Michael Rosen, author of What Else But Home: Seven Boys and an American Journey from the Projects to the Penthouse on Wednesday, December 9. Michael Rosen is a Lower East Side resident and longtime community advocate who has worked side-by-side with University Settlement to save vital neighborhood resources and bring needed changes like the recent neighborhood re-zoning. His book follows the personal journey he and his family began one fateful day when their son, Ripton, joined a pick-up game of baseball with a group of boys from the nearby projects. Both The Door and University Settlement factor in to the story that unfolds around this unique, extended family. Rosen's visit was particularly special for one staff member - GED teacher, Geovana Resende, who worked closely with a few of Rosen's boys and is featured in the book!
