We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:
Position:
Chinese/Asian Cuisine Cook
Overview
University Settlement Senior Center, serving Manhattan's Lower East Side offers a robust menu of services to a diverse population of older adults aged 60 and older. The multi-service program provides case assistance, lunch, recreational and educational activities and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for safe storage of dry, perishable and frozen food, including daily check of refrigerator and freezer temperatures
- Prepare and cook Chinese/Asian style meals along with the Head Cook in accordance with the New York City Department of Health and the New York City Department for the Aging for at least 125 congregate meals, twice a week
- Prepare, cook and package 125 meals for the catered center – Bowery Resident's Committee
- Prepare daily food cost records
- Collaborate with Director and Menu Planning Committee on menus
- Ensure that all kitchen equipment used is cleaned and sanitized
- Clean all pots, pans and utensils used
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by Director
Qualifications:
- New York City Department of Health Food Handler's Certificate required
- Minimum of two years of experience in the food service industry, with experience in Chinese/Asian cuisine required
- Must work well with others
- Must be in good physical health and have the ability to stand for long hours and lift heavy objects
- Bi-lingual English/Cantonese and/or English / Mandarin strongly preferred
Salary:
$20.00 per hour
Hours:
8 hours per week (4 on Mondays, 4 on Wednesdays)
